Upon arrival at Mountain Range, you will be greeted by Chris and Erica. Of course, that is when Chris is not busy mowing the grounds on his beloved 'John Deere' or Erica is not busy trying out new recipes in the kitchen! You will then be given a tour of the lodge - starting with an introduction of their four legged sidekick, Louie, a real presence in the garden. After being shown around the lodge you will be guided to your room to relax and unwind. Let them book your evening meal and pour you a glass of wine, you deserve it!
After you unpack and settle in, start planning your Wanaka adventures! All activities can be booked with a simple phone call from the lodge. If you would like advice or information regarding walks in Wanaka- from Mt. Iron to Diamond Lake to Rob Roy Glacier, they can answer your questions. They know the mountain bike trails of Sticky Forest and the Outlet Trail and will even provide a map! Jet boating along the river, alpine scenic flights, wine tasting, and recommendations on where to dine are all on offer, so don't hesitate to ask!
They are also happy to help with your onward travel plans whether to Mt. Cook, the West Coast, Queenstown or Milford Sound. They will share their local knowledge, with enthusiasm!
Chris and Erica spend a lot of time outdoors; they enjoy hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, windsurfing,traveling, and spending time with Louie. They can tell you stories of tramping to alpine huts, kayaking with dolphins at Milford Sound, jet boating on the Matukituki River, and more!
How They Got Here
Chris is originally from Shropshire, England and has been in New Zealand since 2003. Erica is originally from Ohio, USA and has been in New Zealand since 2004. They became permanent New Zealand residents in November, 2008.
They met while working at Lake Ohau Lodge in North Otago in 2005. They spent time off exploring and enjoying Wanaka, thinking ‘we could live here one day…’ They moved to Wanaka in 2008 to manage Mountain Range Lodge and take advantage of all the region has to offer.
Louie is a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Shih Tzu. He is black and white, 4.5 kg, and has a hypoallergenic, non-shedding coat. He is full of character, loves patrolling the grounds in search of pesky rabbits, and always after a bit of a play or pat from the guests. He is available for walks too!
